Young teen drowns in Lake Whitney at Cedar Creek Park

WHITNEY – Monday, July 22nd, a 13-year-old girl has drowned at Cedar Creek Park in Lake Whiney.

According to the Hill County Sheriff’s Department, the incident occurred a little before 6 p.m. when they received a call about the possible drowning. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a group of younger kids had been swimming in the lake when a 13-year-old girl went under and had not returned to the surface.

According to officials, several agents assisted in the search for the girl, including HCSO, Hill County Office of Emergency Management, the Whitney Volunteer Fire Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Division.

Police stated the body was discovered in the water shortly after 7 p.m. Justice of the Peace, Martis Ward pronounced the victim dead at that time.

The victim’s parents were noticed, due to her age, her identity is not being released at this time.
