LUBBOCK —Lubbock County Sheriff’s Investigators made an arrest on a suspect wanted on a “Burglary of Habitation with Intent to Commit Other Felony” warrant.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office says that 32-year-old John David Martinez allegedly entered through the window of a home in the 5000 Block of North County Road 1770, in Lubbock, on July 13, 2019, at approximately 5:00 am.
The suspect reportedly made contact with a 9 year inside the home while she was sleeping.
“He attempted to abduct the child when she screamed for her mother. Martinez then exited the home through the same window,” said a press release from the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office
According to an arrest warrant obtained by KLBK Lubbock, “The male whispered, ‘don’t scream, please don’t tell anyone,’ and picked her up. He began carrying her toward a bedroom on the west side of the residence, that was used for storage.”
“The victim said she screamed again and was able to get away from the male, who jumped out of the window, causing it to shatter,” the warrant said.
“The victim said she did not look at the man’s face, but said she believed her neighbor, ‘JD,’ was the man in question.”
Martinez is now in the Lubbock County Detention Center with a $200,000 Bond.
Sheriff’s Office Investigators with the assistance of the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and the U.S Marshals made the arrest on a warrant issued by the Lubbock County District Attorney’s Office on charges of Burglary with Intent to Commit another Felony.
This isn’t Martinez’ first brush with the law though. He currently has a case pending for Online Solicitation of a Minor stemming from 2018. Martinez was charged with Sexual Assault of a Child Charges in 2011, but pleaded guilty to Injury Of a Child and served two years in Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Martinez is not listed on the Texas Sex Offender Registry.
This case remains under investigation by the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Investigators. LCSO urges anyone with information on this case to call the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office at (806)775-1494.
