Lone Star Fugitive Task Force joins search for baby Elijah’s mother

AUSTIN – Although baby Elijah was found safe and sound after being the subject of a brief Amber Alert, there still leaves many questions to be answered as well as for those who need to answer them.

According to Austin PD, Elijah’s mother checked into a local hospital under a false name during the time of her labor on Friday, July 19th. She then apparently permitted for the baby to leave the hospital with her cousin, Brandy Yovonne Galbert, 41, on Monday, July 22nd.

Child Protective Services interviewed the mother and discovered that she was in checked in under a false identity. The mother is 30-year-old Brittany Sadi Smith. Smith checked out of the hospital against all medical advice and remains on the run.

Marshals stated that Smith is previously known to authorities and CPS for parental termination. The cause was related to neglect and abuse of her previous biological children.

Smith’s criminal history includes injury to a child, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault with bodily injury, theft, failure to identify, and resisting arrest. Smith is known to have ties in both the Austin and Killen areas.
