Kerrville’s historic Arcadia Theater has been shuttered for more than 30 years, but local non-profit Kerrville 4th on the River (KFOR) is working hard to reopen the former movie palace. The goal of re-establishing the Arcadia as a central pillar in downtown Kerrville took another step forward Tuesday when City Council approved a pair of grants – $600,000 from the Kerrville Economic Improvement Corporation and $400,000 in hotel occupancy tax funds – to aid KFOR’s renovation efforts. KFOR has raised an additional $700,000 in other funds, including a $500,000 challenge grant from the Cailloux Foundation, and will soon begin a capital campaign to finance the remainder of the projected $2.3 million total cost to restore and reopen the building.
KFOR has a planned opening date of July, 2020 for the Arcadia, which will host live music concerts and corporate and individual events, as well as movies, when it begins operations.
