Beloved Kendall County Deputy, Matthew Johnson, passes away from stage 4 colon cancer

COMFORT — A man who was loved by many and touched so many lives, has passed away after an almost year-long battle with cancer.

Sergeant Matthew Johnson, who has been called a “true selfless servant” and a “great man” by Ingram Police Chief Byron Griffin and others, has been battling stage 4 colon cancer since July 2018.

Friends of Matthew’s family are saying that his battle against stage 4 colon cancer was one of the most courageous and faithful battles that they have ever seen.

One post said that Matthew was a kind, loving, gentle soul who was an incredible inspiration to everyone he met.

We had the pleasure to sit down with Sergeant Johnson and his wife, Shelli Johnson, last week and they were telling us how they are so grateful for the overwhelming support that they’ve received from law enforcement and the entire community. With his family’s blessing, we will publish the interview in the coming days.

Funeral arrangements are not known at this time. We will update this article when arrangements are known and more public posts about Matthew are made.
