Irving police investigate after 16-year-old fatally attacked by three dogs in someone’s backyard


IRVING – An investigation is underway following the death of a 16-year-old when three dogs in someone else’s backyard attacked him.

The Irving Police Department responded to the scene in the 800 block of E. Third Street on August 10 at approximately 4:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a possible dog attack.

IPD stated that when officers arrived, three dogs were found attacking the victim in the backyard of the residence.

As officers jumped the fence and attempted to stop the attack, the dogs began to attack the officers which resulted in them firing their duty weapons to protect themselves and the victim, stated the Irving Police Department.

The victim, said to be a 16-year-old Hispanic male, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries later that night.

An officer at the scene was treated and released after being bit by one of the dogs.

One dog was injured in the altercation and was later euthanized due to his injuries. The other two dogs were taken to and remain at the Irving Animal Shelter.
