VICTORIA – Five people are dead and seven are in the hospital following a three-vehicle crash that happened near Victoria on Saturday morning, July 20.
It was reported that the crash took place on U.S. 59 South and involved an 18-wheeler, a passenger van, and a pickup truck.
Officials stated that 10 people were riding in the van and two people were in the pickup truck.
Five passengers in the van died at the scene including the female driver, two men, and two children. The five other passengers were reportedly injured.
The driver and passenger of the pickup were transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured during the accident.
The cause of the crash has not been determined yet as an investigation is still underway.
Sgt Ruben San Miguel said that investigators were trying to figure out why a northbound van hit the left rear of the northbound semi that was pulling a flatbed trailer followed by the van striking a southbound pickup truck.
Those who responded to scene included the Victoria Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
