ROCKSPRINGS — Sheriff Pamela Elliott, of the Edwards County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that they had arrested a man who was caught smuggling undocumented aliens into Texas.
Nathan Joe Victor Reynosa, of Del Rio Texas, was arrested and charged with a 3rd Degree offense of Felony Smuggling of Persons.
A traffic stop on July 22, at around 11 pm led to the discovery when Reynosa allegedly failed to make a complete stop at a stop sign.
“The Deputy stopped the vehicle and it was found to contain one United States Citizen and four undocumented Mexican citizens; two of whom were hidden in the cargo area of the vehicle,” stated Edwards County Sheriff Pamela Elliott
Reynosa was identified by the deputy and Edwards County Sheriff Pamela Elliott and arrested since he was the driver of the vehicle.
According to the press release, the undocumented aliens were turned over to the Brackettville Border Patrol Station for removal proceedings and the vehicle was seized.
Reynosa remains in the Edwards County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
Texas Penal Code Sec. 20.05. SMUGGLING OF PERSONS.(a) A person commits an offense if the person, with the intent to obtain a pecuniary benefit, knowingly: (1) uses a motor vehicle, aircraft, watercraft, or other means of conveyance to transport an individual with the intent to: (A) conceal the individual from a peace officer or special investigator; or (B) flee from a person the actor knows is a peace officer or special investigator attempting to lawfully arrest or detain the actor; or (2) encourages or induces a person to enter or remain in this country in violation of federal law by concealing, harboring, or shielding that person from detection. (b) An offense under this section is a felony of the third degree.
