CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 24-year-veteran of the Corpus Christi Police Department has been arrested on the suspicion of DWI, according to police.
The arrest took place Saturday, October 5, at approximately 2 am, when officers received a call that a man had fallen asleep in a Whataburger drive-through, located in the 4000 block of IH-69.
“Prior to officers arriving on scene, a witness had already woken the driver and had him move his vehicle to a parking space,” stated a press release from Corpus Christi PD. “During the investigation, officers believed that the driver, 51-year old Donnie Mersing, was intoxicated and he was placed in custody.”
Mersing was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, a Class B Misdemeanor, and taken to the Corpus Christi Detention Center and processed.
The Officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, according to current department practice and policy.
