ARANSAS PASS – The Aransas Pass Police Department announced that the charges against Jacob Lawler, the 23-year-old seen on video appearing to brutally assault his girlfriend have been enhanced.
A video circulated around social media a couple of weeks ago showing what appeared to be Lawler violently assaulting his girlfriend outside on a patio. The video appears to show Lawler dangling the woman over the banister and then dragging her back down the stairs.
The Aransas Pass Police Department stated that detectives visited with the District Attorney of San Patricio County, Sam Smith. Upon reviewing the case and video evidence, DA Smith decided to upgrade Lawler’s charge to felony attempted murder.
After that, detectives obtained a 2nd-degree felony warrant for Lawler for attempted murder.
Assisted by the US Marshals Office, APPD is still searching for Lawler’s whereabouts. It has been determined by law enforcement that Lawler either fled the area or is hiding with close associates.
“It is important to note that hindering that apprehension of a fugitive is a felony. Detectives intend on filing charges against those found doing so,” stated APPD.
Contact Tri-County Crime Stoppers at 800-245-TIPS (8477) if anyone has information regarding this case. Information that leads to Lawler’s arrest may be eligible for a reward. Refer to case number 19-16964.
